Mr. Mooney began at The Cole Law Firm LLC, formerly the Law Office of Robert D. Cole, Jr., in 2013. Between 2013 and 2021, he worked as the firm’s sole law clerk, assisting Mr. Cole in the preparation of thousands of criminal cases involving charges spanning from simple drug possession and misdemeanor assault to first-degree murder and other violent felonies. During that time, Mr. Mooney second-chaired tens of jury trials and acted as the first level of review for every criminal case that came through the office. He was responsible for the organization, summarization, and distillation of all paper and electronic discovery. This led Mr. Mooney to become well-versed in Maryland law as it pertains to the diverse array of constitutional and other legal issues that arise in criminal cases. After transitioning from his role as a law clerk to an associate in December 2021, Mr. Mooney has used his experience from his first 8 years at the firm to provide detailed and effective representation for all of his clients.
Mr. Mooney is a graduate of Loyola University Maryland, having graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 2018. After college, Mr. Mooney attended the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2021. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Mooney was selected as a member of the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barristers. He was also honored with the Law School Alumni Association Award and the Morris Brown Myerowitz Moot Court Award. At Maryland, he was a member of the National Trial Team, National Moot Court Team, Moot Court Board, and Maryland Law Review.
